Our honeymoon manga

Shibuya

One crossing, a thousand directions, and the two of us in the middle. We picture ourselves in Shibuya, looking up.

Matteo and Milena cross Shibuya hand in hand among the city lights.

Akihabara

Matteo could spend a whole day here. Manga, games and shelves to explore.

Matteo buys a pile of manga in Akihabara, while Milena helps him balance it.

Milena will gently remind him that our suitcase has its limits.

The arcade

This is Matteo’s stop: buttons, lights and the promise of one last game.

Matteo and Milena play side by side in a Japanese arcade.

Milena cheers him on, then suggests the next level: two bowls of ramen.

Ramen

After all that walking, two steaming bowls and time to talk about our day. Sometimes the loveliest memories start with a simple dinner.

Matteo and Milena enjoy dinner at the counter of a small ramen bar.

Kanazawa

In Kanazawa, we dream of a stop to explore samurai history, for Matteo.

Matteo and Milena pause beside a pond in a Kanazawa garden.

Then a garden chosen by Milena, without looking for the shortest route.

From armour to a quiet bench. The plan: stop even when we don’t need to.

Takayama

Milena sets the pace here: shoes left at the door and a cup of tea. Matteo puts everything else on pause.

Milena pours tea while Matteo listens in a quiet ryokan room.

Fuji?

A detour towards Mount Fuji is still one of our ideas.

Matteo and Milena imagined beside a lake with Mount Fuji in the distance.

For now, we’ll draw it here in our journal. The journey will tell us whether we meet.

Kyoto

In Kyoto, we picture ourselves beneath the torii gates. Milena sets the pace; Matteo follows the stories of the place. Neither watches the clock.

Matteo and Milena walk together under Kyoto’s red torii gates.

Nara

A possible day trip to Nara, its park and its deer.

A deer approaches Matteo and Milena in Nara park.

The kind of encounter that makes you smile and becomes a story you can’t wait to tell.

Osaka

Dotonbori’s signs and the smell of street food.

Matteo and Milena try takoyaki under the evening lights of Osaka.

The temptation to try one more thing, one bite at a time.

Osaka could be our liveliest farewell to Japan.

Abu Dhabi

After Japan, we dream of five or six days by the sea. A barefoot walk, with no hurry.

Matteo and Milena play in the waves on an Abu Dhabi beach, relax with tea and manga, and watch the sunset hand in hand, seen from behind.

Milena with her tea and Matteo finally relaxing, with a manga book close at hand.

Then standing hand in hand as the sun sinks towards the sea. This chapter is still an imagined plan too.

A journey still taking shape. Places and activities are provisional; the route is an illustration.
